Our Legislature should encourage prosperity for Rhode Islanders.
It should not create burdens.
My experience:
As a business owner for 20 years, I understand the hurdles and needs of the business community.
As a Director of Facilities for a charter corporation I have twenty one years of experience creating the best possible infrastructure in a campus setting while working within the confines of a restricted budget.
For the better part of 3 decades I have actively worked with entities such as the Conservation Law Foundation from Washington D.C. to create real change that has compelled the state landfill to adhere to laws such as the Clean Air Act .
I have worked hard on behalf of patients under duress from unfair costly medical coverage and pharmaceutical corporate greed.
Working for folks to receive the proper care and medications needed while delays due to cost and executive negligence might have brought forth avoidable harm.
Most importantly,
as a husband and a father I understand the hopes and dreams that every Rhode Islander has for their children / families.
Brian Rea For State Representative
To thrive, RI needs to change the balance of power in our legislature. The 87% supermajority has not served us well.
"Transparency", "true representation", "caring for the needs of Rhode Islanders" are all just empty words here in RI - policymakers need to EMBRACE these principles.
The pandemic has shone brightly on the failures and outright refusal of our elected officials to do what's required to bring success, security and quality of life to Rhode Island. This must change immediately.
We The People, will create positive change when this balance becomes a reality. One party domination has not bettered the lives of Rhode Islanders - quite the opposite.
RI's history is clear, overspending while ranking close to, or at the very bottom of every list, year after year.
We must create a business culture of success, not burden.
Job growth, prosperity and creating a future for our children here in RI is my focus. Our children are forced to move away to build their lives where prosperity exists and this needs to end.
Creating relief and security for our seniors must be paramount so they may keep their homes and remain in our communities, sharing their valuble experience and knowledge.
When we change the way we do business in RI's legislature, these are just a few improvements we can and will enjoy.
There are so many opportunities to make real advances that will allow us to build a better RI and we must act NOW!
REA for Glocester, Smithfield and all of Rhode Island
How do we Build a Stronger RI?
Pillar 1
The Government must serve the people - not itself
Listen and focus on the needs of the people. End the super-majority reign of the political elite. Foster community involvement through local committees. We need to de-mystify the legislative process so regular citizens can follow, interact and impact the direction our policymakers bring us as a state. This is a non-partisan approach to bringing the people's voice directly to the legislature.
Pillar 2
The General Assembly must always be willing to work
Never again should the Legislature be allowed to stand down from their constitutional duties while executive orders dictate our state policies. While most of us engaged in online technology to do our jobs, our state government operated as a one-man show with zero legislative oversight. This approach has literally crushed businesses, public education and our citizens.
Pillar 3
Legislation needs to create success not burden
RI cannot afford a legislature that continually adds burden to every facet of our lives.
No more unfunded mandates! Not for towns, not for businesses - not for free citizens.
The 2021 Act on Climate by our Legislature has no plan for a smooth transition - just mandates creating impossible thresholds that cause massive infrastructure expenses. The citizens of RI, both in their homes and businesses will be financially devastated by the unrealistic goals of this plan. All amendments that were submitted to provided ease of transition and consumer protection were voted down by the democratic majority.
Brian Rea I offer diligence, not politics.
